Consecration of the Lodge
The lodge was consecrated at the Masonic Hall, Park Road, Stapleton on Saturday May 7th 1966 at 3.15pm. This was followed by the Installation of the Master Designate at 5.15. The Consecrating Officer was RW.Bro The Hon W R S Bathurst TD JP FSA, the Provincial Grand Master for Gloucestershire who was ably assisted by 11 officers of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Gloucestershire.
During his address to the brethren the Consecrating Officer stated that the vitality of freemasonry here was due to the fact that candidates hoped to take part in the ceremonies and to reach the Worshipful
Master’s chair. This was not usual, for in other parts the brethren expected ceremonies to be carried out only by bands of experts well skilled in the practice of the Craft.
There were 14 Petitioning Brethren (named below). The Consecration Ceremony was witnessed by a further 68 brethren including 3 Grand Officers.
The Lodge of Harmony and Concord No. 8106 was the first craft lodge to be consecrated at Stapleton although The Filton Chapter of Fortitude No. 6498 was consecrated there in June of the previous
year. The other three lodges meeting there at that date, namely The Filton Lodge of Fortitude No. 6498, The Lodge of Fidelity No. 6943 and The Lodge of Sincerity No. 7653 were all consecrated at Downend
Masonic Hall.
